Getting Ready!

July 18, 2016

Bags are packed, passports are tucked into backpacks, camera batteries are charged and we are ready to go! Educators from Brevard to Newport, reaching students from elementary age through adults, are excited about traveling to Belize as part of the Tropical Ecology Educators of Excellence Institute. The first Educators of Excellence trip to Belize happened in 1987 – the brainchild of former Museum staff member Mary Ann Brittain and Belize Zoo Director Sharon Matola. They knew that travel has a way of giving people fresh eyes with which to see the world, and that by creating a team of educators from North Carolina and Belize, we could all learn from one another. Nearly thirty years later these ideas still holds true.

Please follow along with us as we experience the wonders of Belize, and gain a new appreciation and understanding of the world around us.

Congratulations to all of the teachers who have been chosen to participate in this glorious hands-on experience. Students all over NC AND BELIZE will receive the intangible benefits from this wonderful study adventure. What fun it is for me to join in vicariously with the daily reports.

Thanks for encouraging everyone to write. What changes have occurred over the last 20 years to the coral reefs by Belize?
